Greece Tourist VISA

Greece is part of the Schengen region. Therefore, you will need to apply for Schengen short stay VISA, in order to enter Greece.

The VISA allows it’s holders to stay in Greece for the period of 90days.

VISA Exempt Countries

Most Countries are exempted from using a VISA to enter Greece for a short stay.

The following Countries do not need a VISA to enter into any Schengen Country.

What documents Do I Need For The Application?

You’re to submit the following documents during application:

  1. Schengen VISA application form, after you complete this form, print it and sign it at the end.
  2. Valid passport: Your passport must meet the following conditions:
    • Must be issued within the last 10 years.
    • Must have at least three months of validity left; beyond the date you plan to leave Greece.
    • Must have at least one blank page, for the VISA sticker.
    • In addition, your passport must not be damaged. Passports with extended validity are not accepted, even if they have been issued in the last 10 years. Passports with no blank pages will not be accepted either.
  3. Two recent photos: The photo must have been taken within the last 6 months according to the Schengen VISA photos requirements and specifications.
  4. Travel Health Insurance; If you are traveling to Greece for a short-term stay, then you need to purchase this type of insurance. It must cover the whole territory of Schengen with minimal coverage of €30,000 for any Health complication while in Greece.
  5. Proof of accommodation:
    • Hotel booking; The document must contain the entry and exit dates, your Name and Surname, and information on the Hotel, as the name, and contact details.
      • Invitation letter from a friend or family member living in Greece. The letter should be approved by the relevant Greek authorities where your friend or relative lives. It must include the following information and attachments:
      • Host’s name and surname.
      • Address of the place/house/apartment.
      • A copy of their ID.
      • A copy of their residence card, if applicable.
    • Rental agreement. If you will be renting while in Greece, you should present an agreement which:
      • Must be signed by both, you and the owner.
      • Should indicate the address of the place, and the area you have rented.
      • Should include details about the owner, their names and surnames, ID number and contact details.
    • Proof of Financial support:
      • Bank account statement for the last three months.
      • Salary slips.
      • Proof of property ownership (cars, apartments or other real estates).
      • Registered proof of sponsorship and/or private accommodation.
    • Another proof you need to submit, is a document that shows you have booked a roundtrip ticket from your Home Country to Greece and back, or onward travel if you are planning to leave to another Country after your stay in Greece. The document must contain your name, the arrival and departure date, and the flight number.
    • You also need to submit a certificate issued by an authorized Doctor, regarding your health situation. The certificate should state that you are free of any diseases and disabilities, which might endanger public health or threaten public policy and security.
    • According to your employment status, you will need to submit a few additional documents, which are:
      • If you are employed: Employment contract stating your salary and a no-objection letter issued by your employer.
      • If you are self-employed: Commercial registry and Up-dated tax card.
      • If you are retired: Pension statements.
      • If you are a Student: Proof of School/University enrollment, and no-objection letter.

Application Procedures For The Greece Tourist VISA

Tourist VISA For Greece

Before you apply for the VISA, you have to know when to apply and where to Lodge your application.

The best time to apply for the VISA is two months before your intended date of travel.

You will have to Lodge your Application at the Greek Consulate or Embassy in your Home Country.

Also, you have to apply for the VISA Online at the website of the Greek Government. Book an appointment on the same Website, and get your date of appointment.

Attend the VISA interview and give your biometrics if it’s your first time visiting any Schengen Country, or you have not traveled to the Schengen area in the past five (5) years.

The interview will only be a session of interrogations by the Greek official, you will be asked questions about your background and your purpose of visit.

You will have to pay your VISA fee the same day. The fee is required to cover the expenditures of the processing of your application.

Depending on the Embassy, you may have to pay this fee online, at the Bank, or in cash at the Embassy.

Immediately you are done with the application, you have to wait for the processing of your VISA application.

Once you are notified, you should go and collect your VISA at the Embassy.

Note:

The maximum validity of a Schengen VISA is three months within a 6-month period. Yet, the embassy may grant you with shorter validity, i.e. three weeks, or even shorter – as four days.
